Since beginning operations in Haiti in 2003, Reconnaissance personnel in the country have been impressed at how genuine and resilient the people are, particularly when their history is taken into account. Haiti was designated by the United Nations as the poorest country in the Western Hemisphere, and this is openly evident throughout the country with the capital, Port Au Prince (PAP), resembling more West Africa than any of Haiti’s Caribbean neighbours.
Reconnaissance initially entered PAP with two men and now has a significant team of ex-patriots working in tandem with a highly-trained local team of 600. The widespread poverty throughout the country had an effect on Reconnaissance’s Irish management which led to the company adopting a Social Responsibility scheme. Through this we have made significant donations on a monthly basis to schools, orphanages, medical centres and regional charities. It is important to give back to a country and people that have so much to offer and so, Reconnaissance endeavours to support the reconstruction of the country through encouraging business, offering equal employment and maintaining our Social Responsibility scheme.
